Bradley Mitzelfelt

Project Architect

With 12 years of experience in architecture, I bring a wide-ranging background shaped by work across the Midwest and beyond. I earned my undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and my master’s degree from the University of Illinois. Throughout my career, I’ve worked in Indiana, Michigan, South Dakota, and Texas, while contributing to projects across the Midwest and as far west as Idaho.

I help lead projects from start to finish, coordinating closely with both architects and engineers to deliver thoughtful, well-executed solutions for our clients. I’m fortunate to work on a wide variety of projects—from water towers shaped like rockets to complex civic facilities—and I value Hillside’s strong team-first culture, where collaboration matters more than individual recognition.

Some of my most meaningful work includes designing a courthouse for the Rosebud Sioux Tribe and being part of an award-winning team for a Juvenile Detention Center in Kent County, Michigan. One of my strengths is the breadth of my experience; I’ve worked on nearly every project type imaginable, from jails and courthouses to infrastructure projects. I’m especially drawn to code reviews and enjoy diving into the details to ensure projects are solid, compliant, and well thought out.

What motivates me most is the desire to see architecture inspire people again. While the profession often views itself as cutting-edge, I believe we can do more to create buildings that genuinely move and inspire the communities they serve.

Outside of architecture, I’m both a writer—working in novels and short stories—and a musical artist, creating electronic music under the name BRIGΔND.
